Artist's Comments

For my illustration class, we were supposed to do an ink wash... I sketched a lot of things first. Most of them Japanese in nature.. like monks and geisha... since I found a lot of wash drawings of that subject matter. Then I stumbled upon this beautiful picture by thrumyeye: [link] and that was it. I had to paint it. I can honestly say that I've never illustrated a tiger before. I think it turned out nicely.

For my illustration peeps: Should I box it in and do a background? I kind of like it free floating... O_O'''

Wow... beautiful. O o;; That's frakking awesome. xD I am not in your class, but I personally think this looks great free-floating with no background or having it boxed in. Besides, yeh gotta think about meaning, too. :P Boxing the tiger in might get some people to think it's caged or something. This way it feels far more free and natural. I'd definitely keep it as-is.

So yes... wonderful work! =^ ^=

maybe I could just outline him in bold.. it wouldn't box him in, but might define his figure better. What do you think?

:plotting: Yess... yessss, I think this might be good... lol. Actually yeah that might work pretty well, I think. I'd suggest making the bold line fairly thin to start with and see how it looks. Yeh don't want to overwhelm the picture with the bold line around the tiger. So, go with something a little subtle first, see how it looks, and if you still think it'd look good with a thicker, darker outline, go for it. Just know it is easier to add lines than take away. :P

Either way, good luck! I think this looks frakking amazing either way! ^ ^

aaaand i think it shouldn't be boxed it but have that thing like some people had on their political cartoons with the "there's a border, but there's no line" sort of thing. like maybe a really washed out background
:iconkitsunedajfox:
what? you can still do your cat!!! Don't let me stop you! T____T!!!
