WARNING. THIS IS A RANT.Some recent frustrations.
1. Paid for a commission, but then never heard from the artist?Just like to make the statement: This is stealing. It's against the law. Period. If you can't finish a commission, offer a refund and an apology.
2. Life is more important right now, so your commission has been put on hold.I know, it happens to the best of us. (Me, alot.) It's one thing putting off a commission for a week and notifying your customers on the rare occasion, but it's another to be ALWAYS complaining about how your life is so hard and busy and you'll get to the artwork
eventually. You know what, if you're too busy, don't offer commissions!
NOTE: It is still proper etiquette if you warn the commissioner in advice of how long it will take to finish art. If they agree, there is no problem.
3. Secret SantaI think every one has had this problem. You do your half and you get nothing in return. OR you do get your art, but its total crap. (I've had excellent exchanges and some really awful ones) If you have a tendency to be lazy on art: Don't enter! No matter what your skill level. If you do enter one of these programs, be advised that you do so at your own risk. Go in with a positive attitude and don't whine if you don't get anything. It's supposed to be a selfless act of charity anyways.
4. Hetalia is the new Naruto*sigh* Another fad on DA. Are people getting into it just because it's popular? I don't think its a bad series or anything (certainly not my genre though) nor is Naruto, but what ever happened to the days of people creating their own original art rather than all this ridiculous fanart? Hetalia is like eating too much candy-- you get sick of it eventually.
5. Lack of information and communication on the part of the buyer for a commission, is not the artist's fault.I don't know how many times, someone has asked for a commission, and I said send me the info and we could talk and then they never reply! Then, down the road they are angry that I never sent them a sketch. Well, hum? I wonder why. If I don't see a payment or more info, I don't draw for you. Nuff' said.
6. Requests? Seriously.*double sigh* As artists, we are not your personal servants. We will not create a character just for you. It would just be better if
YOU create a character for you. Unless you pay us, of course. Raise your hand if this has ever happened to you!
7. Photographs of your pets.Okay, so the three-thousand pictures of your cute pet hamster has officially lost it's novelty. Really. You like photography that much? Make a separate account for it. Let people watch photography accounts for photography and artwork accounts for the artwork, and stop SPAMing everyone else's inbox.
That's all. I feel better now. Sorry for the brutal honesty and insensitivity. Normally I'm pretty quiet about these things. My puppy chewed through her leash, a sprinkler head and made confetti out of my flip flops. Only right that I vent online.

Knowing is not enough, we must apply. Willing is not enough, we must do. -Bruce Lee.
Regardless of the fact that they were free, I still give warnings when life gets in the way. I keep them updated on why it is taking a while, what's going on, even give update pictures.
But I hate it when I'll commission someone... and this recently happened, they were getting artwork done for a friend of mine 1 a week! Her commissions were taking her no time at all and I commissioned when she had multiple vacancies and paid upfront.
... 2 months later, no artwork. No update. I finally get a sketch and give approval that it's good "except". This artist wanted you to give them direct poses, they didn't want to pick themselves. I gave pictures and references and even a picture of the exact pose I wanted. This was not the sketch I received. The character was supposed to be looking at his reflection in the eyes... instead, he's looking at his reflections chest, and his reflection is looking at his hair... I ask this to be changed in the sketch, she says "sure". I wait 2 weeks, another sketch with no changes that I can see. I repeat my request, she goes "OH! I get it" a week passes, I get a sketch and it's the saaaame thing. "...Okay, but, he's still looking way down... tilt the head up. I'm sorry, but it honestly loses alll the emotion if he's not looking eye-to-eye. Fans of the story won't understand at all."
She replies. "Not a problem. If I fix that can I move on to coloring?"
I say "yeah... just be sure to fix that, okay?" Email me, IM me, I'm always on if you want to scan it and have me check! But no... I wait another month and see the finished version posted on her account... wrong colors, pose not changed. I paid full price. And she seems to have a habit of bad-mouthing her commissioners in the reviews. Someone points out "Weird that he's staring at the chest..." and she says "I know, I hate it, but that's what the commissioner asked" for my friend she was dissing the outfit choice that SHE picked and said my friend wanted it... poor business. Saying she had strong morals against drawing such "limited" attire, but drawing it anyway (My friend wanted a Tank Top and it got made into a bikini top) was her choice, not my friends. And when people bring it up... bleh. Teaches me what not to do with my customers. If there is questionable content, I'd rather say "can we change it" or "sorry, I can't."
That's what I like about you! First picture you did was of Drake! You were fast, you emailed me sketches for approval, when I has questions about the scales on the back, you explained "it's how I draw those type of wings" and you asked questions about the outfit... you made it perfect and special for me and it's my all-time-favorite DA commission of him, or anyone from his story!
...now I'm ranting, blaaaah.

I choose to be happy, I choose to be free and I choose to eat lots of ice cream.
If artists become too busy to do the art, it happens, but if they KNOW that they are going to be busy for a month or longer...they shouldn't have opened the commission in the first place. I am very patient when it comes to art, but man I hate it when they don't respond to you, or the second you pay them they tell you they have to wait so they can do art for a trade show or something. >.<
And I personally love Hetalia...but I don't understand this new obsession with it either. I really hope it doesn't turn into the whole Naruto-type obsession, cause that would be just terrible >.<
Also, if I miss information, it's really not on purpose, and if the artist asks I give it to them to the best of my ability...but seriously asking for a sketch when you didn't answer their questions is ridiculous. If people are stupid enough to think that an artist will sketch something, when they don't have the info, and probably will have to redraw it because the information is not correct....is justs ridiculous! (yes that made sense to me xD)
And one more complaint that might be relevant...Don't give the Commissioner/Commission-y a hard time. This is just a bad idea all the way around, and will turn out having the art be a total mess. Also bugging commissioners when the art will be finished all the time is NOT the right way to go...Now, if you've been waiting for a few months, and haven't heard anything in awhile, then yes you should check up on the status...but seriously...Don't flood the ARTIST!

Don't forget the people who post nothing but crappy pictures taken of themselves that belong nowhere but myspace and facebook and insist it's 'art'.
